Farcical Shennanigans Head to Growl Theatre

Nestled within the hussle and bustle of inner-city suburb Lutwych, Growl Theatre are proud to present their latest mainstage production – ‘Rumors’ by Neil Simon, under the expert direction of Matilda award-winning Director Simone De Haas.

Simon, who is arguably most well known for his play ‘The Odd Couple’ wrote ‘Rumors’ after going through some testing times in his personal life.

"This is completely different for me...It's unlike anything I've ever written. It's my first farce. The play started with the idea of doing a farce...The next thing was to do it as an elegant farce, because the farces in Moliere's days were generally about wealthy people. These aren't extremely wealthy people, but they are well-to-do. So I decided to dress them in evening clothes. There was something about having them dressed in evening clothes that I thought was a nice counterpoint to the chaos that was happening in the play. And so I picked a reason for them to be dressed elegantly, and it was a 10th anniversary."

‘Rumors’ is a madcap, slamming door farce set in a large home located just outside of New York in the year 1988. The characters are arriving as guests at a 10th Anniver- sary Dinner. The first couple to arrive discovers that one of their hosts (Charley) has apparently attempted suicide…unsuccessfully. Charley’s wife, Myra, is nowhere to be found and neither are the servants. Through the course of the show, the audience never meets Charley or Myra. As more guests arrive, there are cover-ups, deceptions, mistaken identities, and a lot of huge laughs.

Opening night is Sold Out!

Playing from February 28 to March 14, you best be quick, because performances have already started to sell out, including opening night. And at only $20 (adult) or $17 (concession) you’d be hard pushed to find a show with better value for money.
